What Happened to Your Ledger?
Ledger hardware wallet issues fall into distinct categories. Each requires a different forensic and recovery approach. Identify your situation below or contact us for a free assessment.
Forgotten Ledger PIN
After three incorrect PIN attempts, Ledger devices reset to factory settings. Without the 24-word seed phrase, all funds become inaccessible. Our specialists assess what recovery options remain based on your exact situation and device state.
Start Recovery →Lost 24-Word Seed Phrase
Ledger uses a BIP39 24-word recovery phrase. If the phrase is completely lost and the device is accessible with the correct PIN, funds can be accessed directly. If both the PIN and phrase are lost, partial phrase reconstruction is assessed. If partial words are remembered, BIP39 permutation analysis may recover the full phrase.
Seed Phrase Recovery →Physically Damaged Ledger Device
Water damage, dropped devices, broken screens, or circuit damage. In cases where the secure element chip is intact, forensic hardware analysis may allow extraction of wallet data or confirmation of seed phrase reconstruction. Device damage assessment begins with a free remote consultation.
Damage Assessment →Device Factory Reset Without Backup
Ledger devices reset when PIN attempts are exhausted or when manually reset without saving the recovery phrase. If the original seed phrase was never written down or has been lost, recovery depends on whether partial phrase information exists or whether the device has any forensically accessible state.
Assess My Case →Partial or Damaged Recovery Phrase
Water-damaged paper, partially readable words, torn or faded backup cards. Our specialists apply BIP39 dictionary analysis and derivation path testing to reconstruct full phrases from partial information. Even 18–20 clearly readable words from a 24-word phrase can be enough to begin reconstruction analysis.
Phrase Reconstruction →Ledger Live Sync Issues
Ledger Live fails to detect the device, shows incorrect balances, or cannot sync accounts. While these are often software issues, some cases involve corrupted account configurations that require specialist recovery of account derivation paths to restore full access to all associated addresses.
Sync Recovery →Ledger Phishing or Fake Support Scam
Entered recovery phrase on a fake Ledger site or shared it with someone posing as Ledger support. If this has occurred, the seed phrase is permanently compromised. The immediate priority is blockchain forensic tracing of drained funds and building legal evidence for exchange freeze requests.
Forensic Investigation →Wrong Derivation Path
Restoring a Ledger seed phrase into another wallet type (MetaMask, Exodus, etc.) using the wrong BIP44 derivation path results in a different set of addresses being generated. Our specialists identify and test the correct derivation path to locate and restore access to the original funds.
Path Recovery →Bought Second-Hand Ledger Device
Purchasing a used or pre-configured Ledger device carries serious security risks. If the device came with a pre-set PIN or a seed phrase already generated, the original owner may retain access to any funds loaded onto it. Our security audit confirms whether a device is safe to use and whether funds are at risk.
Security Audit →All Ledger Models Supported
Our hardware wallet forensics team maintains specialist expertise across every Ledger device generation. Here is a breakdown of our coverage by model.

Ledger devices use a certified Secure Element chip (EAL5+ or EAL6+) that is specifically designed to resist extraction of private keys. This means private key extraction from the chip itself is not within scope of legitimate recovery services. What forensic recovery does address is: seed phrase reconstruction from partial information, derivation path recovery, device-state assessment for PIN recovery feasibility, and blockchain tracing if funds have been moved. Any service claiming to extract keys directly from a Ledger secure element should be treated with extreme scepticism.
What to Do Right Now
The actions you take immediately after a Ledger issue directly affect what recovery options remain available. Follow this guidance before doing anything else.
- Do not enter your 24-word recovery phrase into any website, app, or contact form — the real Ledger support will never request it
- Do not attempt more than two PIN entries if you are unsure — three incorrect attempts trigger an irreversible factory reset
- Do not purchase “Ledger recovery software” from any website — no such software exists legitimately and all are scams
- Do not disassemble the device yourself — improper handling of the secure element permanently destroys any remaining recovery potential
- Do not buy a replacement Ledger and try to guess the original phrase — contact a specialist for a structured assessment first
- Stop all PIN entry attempts immediately if you are unsure of the correct PIN — you have limited attempts before reset
- Write down every word you remember of your recovery phrase and note its position — even partial information has forensic value
- Check all physical locations where you may have stored the recovery phrase (safes, paper wallets, password managers, encrypted files)
- Photograph any damaged or partially readable recovery phrase cards before further handling degrades them
- Do not connect a physically damaged Ledger to power until a specialist has advised whether it is safe to do so
- Contact Jayglotech’s hardware wallet recovery team with a description of your situation for a free case assessment

Partial Phrase & Derivation Analysis
For partial seed phrases: BIP39 word-list permutation analysis is applied to candidate words and positions. For derivation path issues: BIP44, BIP49, and BIP84 path testing across all Ledger-native coin configurations to locate original addresses and confirm fund accessibility.
Physical Device Assessment
For damaged devices: our hardware forensics specialists evaluate whether the secure element is intact, whether the device can be safely powered on, and whether any device-state information can assist reconstruction. Specialist-guided hardware handling instructions are provided before any device is shipped for assessment.
On-Chain Forensic Tracing
For cases involving stolen or drained funds: professional-grade blockchain analytics tools trace fund flows across wallet hops, exchange deposits, chain bridges, and mixer patterns. Suspicious transactions are documented and exchange freeze requests are filed wherever stolen funds can be linked to regulated platforms.
Secure Recovery Execution
Once the recovery path is confirmed: the restoration process is executed under encrypted protocols with the assigned specialist only. For seed phrase recovery, restored access is confirmed on a fresh, verified Ledger device before any session concludes. Funds are never accessed or moved by our team without explicit client authorisation.
Forensic Evidence Package
Every case concludes with a comprehensive forensic report documenting the recovery methodology, blockchain transaction analysis, all wallet addresses examined, and a legally structured evidence summary suitable for authority reporting, insurance claims, or civil proceedings if required.
◆ What Our Specialists Examine
Device Generation & Chip Model
Identifying secure element variant (ST31 vs ST33) determines forensic approach and physical recovery feasibility.

Our free assessment is the fastest route to understanding your recovery options. No commitment, no upfront cost — just an honest evaluation from a certified hardware wallet specialist.
Information to Gather First
The more information you can provide in the initial assessment, the faster and more precisely our specialists can evaluate your recovery options.
Ledger Device Model
Which Ledger model you have (Nano S, Nano S Plus, Nano X, or Stax), the approximate age of the device, and whether it was purchased new or second-hand. This directly affects the forensic approach available.
Exact Nature of the Problem
Is the device physically accessible? Do you know any PIN digits? Is the device showing an error message? Has it been reset already? A precise description of the current device state allows accurate feasibility assessment.
Partial Recovery Phrase Details
Every word you remember and its position (e.g., word 7: “jungle”, word 12: “river”). Any words you are uncertain about but can narrow down to 2–3 candidates. Do not send this via standard email — our specialist will provide a secure channel for sensitive data.
Wallet Addresses & Transaction History
Your Ledger public addresses if known (visible in Ledger Live or blockchain explorers). Any transaction hashes associated with your wallet. This allows immediate on-chain analysis to begin during the assessment phase.
Physical Condition of Device & Backup
Photos of any physical damage to the device. The condition of the recovery phrase backup (torn, water-damaged, faded, partially readable). Whether any digital backup of the phrase was ever created and where it might be stored.
Passphrase (25th Word) Information
Whether you used an optional BIP39 passphrase (the 25th word feature in Ledger Live). If so, any information about what that passphrase might have been — even partial memory helps narrow the reconstruction scope significantly.
Ledger Recovery FAQ
The questions our Ledger hardware wallet recovery specialists receive most often, answered directly and honestly.
Can a Ledger wallet be recovered after a factory reset?
After a factory reset, recovery depends entirely on whether you have access to the original 24-word recovery phrase or any portion of it. If you have the complete phrase, simply restore it onto a new or reset Ledger device — all funds will be accessible. If the phrase is partially known, our BIP39 reconstruction specialists can often fill in missing words. If the phrase is completely unknown and no backup exists anywhere, recovery is not feasible — our free assessment will confirm this honestly for your specific situation.
What happens if I enter the wrong Ledger PIN three times?
After three incorrect PIN attempts, Ledger devices automatically reset to factory settings as a security measure. The device erases all locally stored data including the PIN and the encrypted seed. The only way to regain access is by restoring the original 24-word recovery phrase onto the reset device or any compatible BIP39 wallet. This is why the physical backup of the recovery phrase is so critical. If the phrase has also been lost, contact our specialists for a partial phrase reconstruction assessment.
Can you recover a Ledger wallet without the seed phrase at all?
If the device has not been reset and you still know the correct PIN, funds remain accessible directly through the device without needing the seed phrase. In this case, the priority is transferring assets to a new wallet with a fresh seed phrase backup before any further incident. If the device has been reset and the seed phrase is completely unknown, direct recovery of the original wallet is not possible — the Ledger secure element is specifically designed to prevent seed extraction. Our assessment will confirm your specific situation and identify every available option.
Can my Ledger seed phrase work with other wallets like MetaMask or Exodus?
Yes. Ledger uses the BIP39 standard, which means your 24-word seed phrase is fully compatible with any BIP39-compatible wallet including MetaMask, Exodus, Electrum, Mycelium, and others. However, the derivation paths used by Ledger for some coins differ slightly from default MetaMask paths — this means importing a Ledger seed into MetaMask may show different addresses than expected. Our specialists can identify and test the correct derivation path to locate your original addresses and confirm fund accessibility from any compatible wallet interface.
I remember most of my 24-word phrase but am missing a few words. Can you help?
Yes. Partial seed phrase reconstruction is one of our most common Ledger recovery cases. The BIP39 word list contains 2,048 words, and the 24-word phrase includes a checksum that eliminates the majority of invalid combinations. If you are missing up to 4–5 words and remember the rest correctly, our reconstruction analysis can systematically identify the correct full phrase. The more words and positional information you can provide, the higher the probability of successful reconstruction. Submit a free assessment to receive a realistic evaluation for your specific phrase situation.
Is it safe to send my Ledger device to Jayglotech for physical assessment?
Physical device shipment is only recommended after a remote assessment has been completed and after our specialist has confirmed that hardware examination is necessary and could yield recovery-relevant information. We provide specialist-guided packaging instructions to prevent further damage during transit and handle all physical devices under strict chain-of-custody protocols. In most cases, a remote assessment is sufficient to determine the recovery approach without requiring the physical device at all.
What cryptocurrencies does Jayglotech support for Ledger recovery?
Ledger supports over 5,500 coins and tokens, and our forensic recovery covers all major assets including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and all ERC-20 tokens, Litecoin (LTC), XRP, Solana (SOL), Cardano (ADA), Polkadot (DOT), Avalanche (AVAX), BNB Smart Chain assets, Polygon (MATIC), and USDT/USDC across all supported chains. For less common assets, we assess recovery feasibility case by case. Any asset that Ledger Live officially supports falls within our coverage scope.
